It all started with a call from my brother.
“Hey, the waterfront Festival is today, you coming to it?”
“Is it like the Darkmoon Faire? That’s in Shat this weekend? Why would there be two festivals this weekend, that wouldn’t make any sense?”
“I wouldn’t know anything about that. There are fireworks tonight if you are interested.”
“Ohh so it’s like the Festival of The Moon in Moonglade!”
“Great here we go again. Listen, time to join the Real World and get out and do something”
I’ve heard my brother talk about this “Real World” and how much fun it is. But I don’t care how much fun he has with his “friends” in the ‘Real World” I’ve checked and that guild is not on my server. Maybe they have free transfers though, because I am NOT paying for a realm transfer.
“Ok I’ll try it. What’s the quickest way to get to the Waterfront Festival?”
“Drive you idiot. U.P., Michigan, where you grew up?”
I did some quick checking on the map and Atlas…
“Uhh… I Ahh… Hmm let me see… I can’t find it anywhere… Not on Thottbot, what’s the closest flight path?”
“For God’s Sake, get off your ass, go outside and drive here!”
Outside… What an odd, but yet familiar word. It was almost like a mother’s lullaby that you have forgotten the words to, but vaguely remember the melody.
“Outside, is that a new instance? How do I get there?” But it was too late he had already hung up.
“Hmm, must be that new instance from the patch.” Now for the hard part. There was no way I was going to pug a new instance so I needed help.
“Let me see, Tras is offline, Dom is AFK, Wildman is on vacation (whatever that is), Adrine is, well the last time I heard from Adrine she was leading Crowsnest into Kara for a quest… We’ll probably find her Tuesday in some random hallway in there.”
Then, being the ingenious Gnome Warlock I am I knew what needed to be done. I needed to enlist the most powerful Mage I knew to help with my plight!
“Ohh, Honey!!!” I heard her come into the office from the other room.
“Yes Dear?” As she gave me the “Ohh, great he’s on the computer AGAIN” look. I’ve seen it before, like about 15 min prior when she kicked me off the computer… for the third time… that hour.
“My brother called, said there’s some fair/festival thing in Michigan, but I can’t find it on the map. He has I need to go “outside” to get there. You know where that is?”
“Yes.” She said almost seeming annoyed at the fact I didn’t know where “outside” was. She rolled her eyes and began walking towards the wall. Now the next part I can’t fully explain, as I still believe it a miracle. I have seen the Mage display great power and control over magic before but nothing like this. As she reached the wall she without hesitation simply touched it and pulled back, opening a great luminous portal before my eyes.
I reeled back blinded by the light from the power of this portal to the “outside”.
“Amazing how, how did you do that?”
“It’s a door. Don’t tell me the almighty Blizzard forgot to put doors in your little world.”
“Hush creature! It is not wise to speak ill of the Maker! But still, I am not sure about this portal. Without the guild, I feel I should wait.”
“Come on. Live a little; join the Real World for awhile you might like it. Take the kid, he’ll have fun, you can bond.”
Of course! The perfect solution. My oldest minion. The one I have trained the longest!
“Allow me to summon him”
“Ohh God, not again, please the neighbors already want us to move.”
“ From the Fiery Depths I Summon thee, JUUUUNNNIIIOOOORRRR!!!!!” I yelled.
Instantly from behind I heard.
“Yeah… Dad…. I’ve been here on the couch the whole time.” Junior exclaimed
“Mind your tongue demon spawn. I have told you to call your master by his name, Gispe!” That’s the problem with minions, the older they get the more rebellious they become.
“Hey Mom” Asked Junior.
“Yes Junior” she replied.
“What’s wrong with dad again?”
“I’m not sure. Tras said something about your father trying to cast Corruption on me last year, but my Shadow resistance was too high, and I reflected it back onto him.”
“Hey mom” he said.
“Yes son” she replied.
“What’s wrong with Tras again?”
“I think he was born that way.”
“Wow, that sucks.”
“But all the doctors agree,” She injected “that they don’t seem to be a risk to themselves or others.”
“I don’t care what those witch doctors say. I told you right after I casted Corruption on you I casted Curse of Doom, and if that got reflected back at me like the Corruption, sooner or later that timer is going to go, and if I don’t have a healer by me when it does, I don’t know if I have enough hit points to pull through.”
“I know dear, that’s why we got the extra life insurance, now go and have fun.” And the last thing I heard as she pushed us into the portal was, “Ohh and if I’m not here when you get back, I’m out looking for a normal life. Bye!”
I turned around to argue more but the Mage had already closed the portal. Unfathomable Power.
